As Director of Safety, Health and Environmental Protection, you will provide strategic leadership and technical authority across safety, health, wellbeing, and environmental performance at a global level. This is a rare opportunity to influence enterprise-wide standards in a highly regulated, safety‑critical organisation, shaping how we manage risk and protect people, assets, and the environment. You will lead a high‑performing central team, defining what good looks like, setting clear standards, and enabling best‑in‑class performance across the business. Working closely with Senior Leaders and the Executive team, your insights will drive decisions that directly support national security, infrastructure, and defence operations. This is a career‑defining role where your expertise will help create safer operations, stronger environmental stewardship, and a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the development of Group‑wide safety, health, wellbeing, and environmental strategy and standards
  • Defining critical risk frameworks, performance targets, and key performance indicators
  • Advising Executive and Board‑level stakeholders on risk, compliance, and performance insights
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives across complex operational environments
  • Overseeing environmental protection accountability through functional leadership teams

This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week, and provides hybrid working arrangements with days in the office and days working from home.

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrating extensive senior leadership experience in safety‑critical, highly regulated environments
  • Delivering enterprise‑level safety and risk strategies and performance frameworks
  • Applying deep expertise in risk management systems and control effectiveness
  • Translating organisational risk appetite into measurable and actionable plans
  • Influencing and building credibility with Executive Teams, Regulators and Operational Leaders

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Professional membership or accreditation (such as IOSH, IRM, or equivalent) is desirable

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
