Your Role

A Quality Practitioner - Governance and Assurance is an intermediate-level professional role in the Quality Governance and Assurance discipline of the Quality role family. This role requires an expanded level of knowledge and experience of professional practice in this discipline, representing the first degree of progression from an entry-level role. This role applies discipline domain knowledge, experience, and judgement to undertake a range of professional assignments. This role will work within established procedures and guidance, under supervision from management roles or senior grade professionals.

The role

As a Quality Assurance Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring that engineering, infrastructure and maintenance activities meet the highest standards of quality, compliance and safety. You will support the delivery of upgrades, maintenance and modifications to key facilities and assets that underpin submarine and warship operations. Day-to-day, you will have an exciting opportunity to contribute to nationally important defence programmes while developing your expertise in quality assurance within a highly regulated engineering environment. Your work will directly support the safe and reliable operation of critical infrastructure, enabling long-term defence capability.

  • Providing quality assurance guidance to project stakeholders across planning, delivery, installation and commissioning
  • Supporting the development and review of Quality Management Plans and Inspection and Test Plans
  • Monitoring quality activities across projects and supply chain, ensuring compliance with standards and requirements
  • Reviewing and assuring Life Time Quality Records to confirm design intent and compliance
  • Supporting senior quality engineers in delivering assurance across the full project lifecycle

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Quality Assurance Engineer

  • Experience applying quality assurance and quality control techniques within an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and regulatory frameworks, including ISO 9001
  • Understanding of document control, change management and continuous improvement processes
  • Aware of statutory and regulatory requirements relating to quality assurance
  • Experience working with supply chains and project-based teams

Qualifications for the Quality Assurance Engineer

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering or quality discipline
  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship in an engineering discipline
  • Knowledge or experience of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
