The role:
- As a HGV Class 1 Driver, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will be a vital part of our Vehicle Engineering contract in Walsall, working as one of a small, professional driving team.
- This role offers variety, responsibility and pride in what you do.
- You will move a wide range of vehicles safely and efficiently across the United Kingdom, representing Babcock every time you arrive on a customer site.
Day to day, you'll be required to:
- Plan delivery schedules and routes in collaboration with transport managers
- Drive a varied fleet ranging from cars through to articulated vehicles, recovery trucks and multi‑deck transporters
- Load, unload and secure vehicles safely and compliantly
- Complete vehicle checks and ensuring all documentation and tachograph records are accurate
- Represent Babcock professionally when working with customers and partners
Please note that this position involves travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role. This is a full‑time, permanent role working 39 hours per week, based at our Walsall Vehicle Engineering site, with average 3 quarters of the week time spent on the road.
Set working times are Monday to Thursday 07:00 to 16:00 and Friday 07:00 to 12:00. Flexibility is required to start earlier, stay away overnight on rare occasions or travel with colleagues or on public transport when business needs demand it. Travel to other Babcock and customer sites across the UK will be expected.
Essential experience of the HGV Class 1 Driver:
- Holding practical experience operating large goods vehicles in a commercial environment
- Demonstrating a strong safety focus and compliance with transport regulations
- Showing reliability, flexibility and a professional customer‑facing approach
Qualifications for the HGV Class 1 Driver:
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
- Full clean Heavy Goods Vehicle driving licence, Category C and Category C+E
- Valid driver tachograph card
- Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Enhanced Security Check (SC) and NPPV2 security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
