The role
As a Construction Health and Safety Specialist, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll play a key role within our Naval Base Projects team, supporting a diverse portfolio of construction projects in a unique, high-hazard environment. Acting as a subject matter expert in Construction Design and Management (CDM), you'll ensure safety is embedded from the earliest design stages through to on-site delivery.
Day-to-day, you'll be required to:
- Collaborate with designers, project managers, and contractors to embed safe design principles from project inception
- Apply principles of prevention to eliminate or reduce risk during the pre-construction phase
- Review risk assessments, hazard logs, and construction documentation to ensure safe, compliant delivery
- Contribute to design reviews, workshops, and project meetings across multiple sites
- Provide practical, on-site health and safety guidance that supports safe and effective project delivery
This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday 07:15 - 16:45 and is based on site at RNAD Coulport with regular travel across internal and customer sites.
Essential experience of the Construction Health and Safety Specialist:
- Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and construction health and safety legislation
- Experience understanding and managing design risk, not just site safety
- Background working in live construction environments in a hands-on role
- Experience engaging directly with contractors and multidisciplinary project teams
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence, challenge, and drive safe outcomes
Qualifications for the Construction Health and Safety Specialist:
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate or equivalent
- NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5-6 in Occupational Health and Safety or working towards
- Membership of a relevant professional organisation such as IOSH, IIRSM, CIOB, RICS or ICE or working towards
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
