Overview

The role

As a Clerk of Works, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll play a vital role in supporting Fleet programmes at HMNB Clyde, ensuring that contractors deliver work safely, compliantly and to the highest quality standards. Working at the heart of our Fleet infrastructure projects, you'll act as a key link between project teams and contractors, helping to maintain the performance, readiness and safety of critical naval assets.

Day-to-day, you'll be required to:

  • Ensuring contractors comply with safety, health, environmental, quality and security standards and CDM regulations
  • Reviewing and approving risk assessments and method statements to ensure safe delivery of works
  • Monitoring contractor performance to ensure projects are delivered on time, in full and to specification
  • Acting as the main point of contact for contractors, supporting daily operations and resolving issues on site
  • Providing regular reports and updates to the Project Manager on progress, risks and performance

This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday 07:15 - 16:45 and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.

Essential experience

  • Demonstrable experience in project or subcontractor control within construction or engineering environments
  • Strong working knowledge of Construction Design Management Regulations
  • Experience managing contractor compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Ability to monitor, report and track project performance against plans
  • Experience working in high-safety or highly regulated environments

Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC or equivalent in Engineering, Health and Safety, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Recognised health and safety qualification such as NEBOSH, IOSH Managing Safely, or Site Management Safety Training Scheme
  • Membership of a relevant professional body is desirable
  • Certifications in Working at Height or Confined Spaces is desirable

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
