The role:

As a Building Custodian, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our facilities are safe, compliant, and ready to support some of the most important defence activity in the country. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a unique operational environment - maintaining the condition and functionality of buildings used by Royal Navy personnel, contractors, and support teams.

Day-to-day you’ll be required to:

  • Conduct regular building inspections to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, asbestos, legionella, waste management, fire safety and first aid requirements.
  • Maintain accurate Hazard and Risk Registers and ensure all compliance records are up to date.
  • Act as the main point of contact for occupants, visitors and contractors, coordinating access, control measures and pre work briefings.
  • Manage and update fire and evacuation plans, coordinating fire drills and keeping all related documentation accurate.
  • Carry out workplace inspections, report and monitor defects through the helpdesk, and build strong relationships by resolving issues promptly and keeping occupants informed.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week - Monday to Thursday and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.

Essential experience of the Building Custodian:

  • Confident using computer systems and digital records.
  • Strong organisational skills and a proactive, self-motivated approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience in accurate recording and administration.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to engage with contractors and colleagues.
