The role involves planning, coordinating and managing electrical isolations on the railway — enabling safe access for multiple contractors working across complex, high‑risk rail environments. This is a safety‑critical role where your work ensures that engineering teams can operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance with national rail standards.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Review access and work plans to identify required electrical isolations, proposing changes before works are approved.
  • Produce, coordinate and publish electrical isolation plans and documentation in line with Electrified Lines Working Instructions and Network Rail standards.
  • Maintain accurate isolation planning records, reviewing completed packs to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Plan and coordinate multiple electrical worksites to avoid conflicts and ensure isolation compatibility.
  • Manage planned switching activities with various switching providers, ensuring all requirements are integrated appropriately.

This role is full time working 35 hours per week and is based on site at Cadder Yard, Glasgow. Shift patterns include weekdays, rostered weekends (3 in 4) and potential night work.

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.

Essential experience of the Rail Electrical Isolation Planner:

  • Knowledge of Electrified Lines Working Instructions and electrical isolation standards.
  • Understanding of methods of working for isolation planning and isolation execution.
  • Knowledge of electrical feeding arrangements.
  • Familiarity with the Rulebook, Sectional Appendix, Weekly Operating Notices and other core rail documentation.
  • Background within the rail industry.

Qualifications for the Rail Electrical Isolation Planner:

  • Must be a Current Experience Nominated Person.
  • Preferably hold ERAF competency in line with SAI 25 however, this is not essential.
