The role
As an Employee Relations Specialist, you\’ll have a role that\’s out of the ordinary. You will be the first point of contact for all employee relations queries, operating within a dynamic, agile and changing workplace within a very supportive and driven team.
Day-to-day, you\’ll provide commercially focused, pragmatic HR advice across a broad range of areas including absence management, flexible working, disciplinary and grievance procedures, performance management, employee wellbeing, and more within a highly unionised environment. Additionally, you will:
- Act as the primary point of contact for all employee relations (ER) matters, providing timely and effective support across a range of issues.
- Deliver expert guidance and coaching on employment law and HR policies, including performance management, disciplinary and grievance procedures, equal opportunities, and absence management, enabling managers to lead with confidence and consistency.
- Foster strong relationships with the wider HR team, ensuring open communication and escalating significant concerns within business areas as appropriate.
- Maintain a thorough and up-to-date understanding of employment legislation, case law, and best practices, ensuring advice is accurate, compliant, and aligned with organisational standards.
- Identify and escalate complex ER cases, ensuring they are managed appropriately and in line with legal and organisational frameworks.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Employee Relations Specialist
- Demonstrate a strong and up-to-date understanding of employee relations, employment law, and relevant legislation, with a clear appreciation for the importance of continuous learning in this area.
- Bring hands-on experience working within a unionised environment, with proven capability in managing ER cases across their full lifecycle.
- Apply a commercially minded and data-driven approach to ER, offering pragmatic, innovative solutions and proactive guidance, both independently and collaboratively.
- Exhibit exceptional communication skills, with particular strength in written communication to ensure clarity, professionalism, and impact.
- Confidently navigate and apply company policies and procedures, especially HR policies and employment contracts, ensuring their practical and consistent implementation.
