About the Role

Babcock is looking for a Maintenance Support Officer to join our Australian Defence Force Ground Support Equipment Contract, where we partner with Defence to manage and maintain the common GSE fleet. Based at RAAF Base Edinburgh, this role plays a key part in keeping critical equipment available and mission‑ready. You’ll be hands‑on with preventative and corrective maintenance, working across a diverse range of Defence ground support assets. From completing work orders and resolving urgent breakdowns to ensuring maintenance is carried out safely and in line with policy, you’ll help keep the fleet operating at peak performance. The role blends technical skill with teamwork, supporting supervisors and administrators, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring defects are identified and addressed quickly. You’ll contribute to condition‑based maintenance, take high‑quality fluid samples, maintain calibrated tools and equipment, and uphold contamination‑control standards across the workshop and service vehicles. With a focus on continuous improvement, you’ll help refine maintenance strategies, stay current with industry best practice, and support a culture of safety, professionalism and operational excellence. To be successful, you will bring:

  • Australian Citizen with a Defence security clearance (or the ability to obtain one).
  • Trade certificate - Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Automotive Technician.
  • Drivers Licence, Heavy Rigid or Heavy Combination would be a distinct advantage.
  • Significant experience in a Heavy Equipment workshop and field service environment.
  • Experience and an understanding of condition monitoring principles and how they affect the fleet owning and operating costs.
