Lead safety excellence across critical defence operations. At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Construction Specialist Safety Practitioner at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.

The role involves providing expert safety leadership, assurance and governance across a complex operational environment. You’ll work closely with managers, delivery teams and suppliers to ensure legal, contractual and organisational health and safety obligations are met.

Day-to-day, you’ll independently assess compliance, challenge unsafe practices and drive continuous improvement across operations and projects. Your work will directly shape safety culture, reduce risk and support confident decision‑making at all levels, while offering strong professional credibility and development within a high‑hazard, regulated environment.

  • Delivering health and safety audits and assurance activities across operations and suppliers
  • Identifying non‑compliance and improvement opportunities, providing clear, evidence‑based feedback
  • Supporting managers and teams with specialist safety advice and risk management guidance
  • Producing safety reports and management information to inform decision‑making
  • Engaging with regulators and external authorities, including the HSE and emergency services

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience:

  • Proven experience conducting health and safety audits in complex or high‑risk environments
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, standards and contractual requirements
  • Experience identifying non‑compliance and driving corrective and preventative actions
  • Confidence influencing stakeholders at all levels, including senior management
  • Experience working with regulators and external authorities

Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • Experience using structured HSE management systems and assurance frameworks - Desirable

Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
