The role

As an Armourer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll contribute directly to the safety and reliability of vital defence equipment. This is a role with real purpose ensuring weapon systems are operational, maintained to the highest standard, and ready when needed. Your work will help support national security, strengthen our customer capability, and play a crucial role in training the next generation of defence personnel.

Day-to-day you’ll be required to:

  • Inspect weapon systems and associated equipment to ensure they meet required standards.
  • Inspect and maintain armoury tools and test equipment.
  • Maintain technical libraries for all weapons and associated equipment across the site.
  • Update the internal JAMES system with accurate maintenance information.
  • Maintain the armourer spares account, including ordering and stock control.

This role is part time, 15 hours per week, working any 2 days per week or spread across 5 days (Monday to Friday). One‑day‑per‑week options are also available. Full‑time hours may be considered, with additional duties supporting the stores team. This role is onsite at Chatham.

Essential experience of the Armourer:

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar armourer or weapons maintenance role.

Qualifications for the Armourer:

  • Qualified Armourer Class 1 level or equivalent.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
