In this role you will contribute to the development of the Weapon Handling and Launch System for the SSN AUKUS submarines, a critical element of national security and global defence capability. This is an opportunity to work on complex, high‑impact engineering programmes while growing your expertise in systems engineering, model‑based design, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
The role
As a Systems Engineer, you will play a vital part in delivering cutting‑edge defence solutions, supporting the design and development of highly complex systems. You will collaborate with experts across engineering disciplines, helping to define requirements, shape system architectures and ensure designs meet rigorous standards.
Day‑to‑day, you will be required to:
- Elicit and develop requirements at multiple levels of the system hierarchy.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to develop the System Architecture.
- Develop the suite of system engineering artefacts which demonstrate progressive acceptance of the design against requirements.
- Take responsibility for delivering aspects of system development within the current lifecycle phase.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days onsite and days working from home. Hybrid working will depend on business needs.
Essential experience of the Systems Engineer
- Understanding of the engineering lifecycle and V‑Model and its application to complex engineering programmes.
- A logical mindset with the ability to analyse and break down complex problems into more manageable tasks.
- Strong communication skills, confident in dealing with multiple stakeholders to review work, with the ability to take on feedback and implement change.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM subject or equivalent demonstrable work experience.
Qualifications for the Systems Engineer
Non-essential Skills and Attributes
- Experience with a Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) approach to design development and an understanding of an MBSE framework, such as the MagicGrid.
- Experience with DOORS Classic, DOORS NG or other requirements management software.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Must be a sole UK national.
