Role Overview
As an NVQ Level 2 Qualified Vehicle Mechanic, you will combine practical, hands‑on experience with a formal learning program to progress towards becoming a fully qualified Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician. You will work on a wide range of military vehicles, developing skills that are highly valued across the defence and engineering sectors.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair on a variety of heavy and military vehicles
- Use hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and technical documentation safely and accurately
- Interpret engineering drawings and technical information to meet specification
- Produce clear written reports detailing inspections, servicing and remedial work
- Work collaboratively within a team while following health, safety and quality standards
- Attend off‑site academic training three days per week for the first six months, alongside practical experience at your home site
The role is based at either Ashchurch or Bovington, with set working hours of 37 hours per week. Occasional travel to other Babcock and customer sites will be required as part of your development.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- Demonstrated aptitude and understanding of mechanical or electrical engineering principles
- Ability to work methodically and accurately when following instructions
- Effective teamwork and communication skills
- Confidence using IT systems for reporting and communication
- Minimum Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- GCSE Grade 4 or above in Maths and English
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
