Vehicle Mechanic

Location: St Andrews, Fife | Salary: Up to £32,760 (dependent on experience)

Role Overview

At Babcock you will maintain and repair military vehicles and equipment at Leuchars, near St Andrews, Fife. This technical role supports national defence and offers career growth.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair military and occasional civilian vehicles and mechanical equipment
  • Undertake inspections, assessments and drive testing
  • Complete documentation and test certificates to required standards
  • Ensure accurate reporting of work completed and time taken
  • Use issued stores and equipment appropriately, returning unused or faulty parts

This position involves manual work including lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods. All tools, equipment and personal protective equipment are provided.

Working Hours

Full‑time, based at the Leuchars site. 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday (8 hours per day) and Friday (5 hours). No mandatory overtime, night shifts or weekend work.

Essential Experience

  • Experience working with heavy goods vehicles (HGV)
  • Confident using diagnostic tools and systems
  • Competent computer user
  • Valid UK driving licence

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Motor Mechanics (Light or Heavy) via RQF NVQ/SVQ or EAL Level 3 NVQ/SVQ Extended

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance. Eligibility may be affected by place of birth, nationality, citizenship and residency.
