As a Vehicle Examiner, you will play a key role in ensuring specialist civilian and military vehicles meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance. This exciting opportunity combines hands‑on vehicle inspection, technical assessment, and certification responsibilities to support operational readiness across the defence sector.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities

  • Conduct vehicle inspections in accordance with customer requirements, technical publications, and regulatory standards.
  • Assess vehicle condition, identify defects, and determine serviceability.
  • Complete inspection reports, certification, and associated documentation accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain vehicle records and update relevant systems to ensure data integrity and compliance.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and repair teams to support safe and effective fleet operations.

This position involves manual work (lifting, bending, using tools, or standing for extended periods). The role is based on site at Catterick, Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in vehicle inspection, maintenance, or assessment activities within military or civilian fleet environments.
  • Good understanding of vehicle systems and defect identification.
  • Ability to interpret technical publications and inspection standards.
  • Experience working to quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical documentation.

Qualifications

  • Recognised military or civilian training in a relevant mechanical or vehicle discipline, or completion of an accredited apprenticeship.
  • Significant experience supported by one of the following:
    • City & Guilds Level 1, 2 and 3 in Light or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance
    • Ordinary National Certificate in an Engineering discipline
    • National Vocational Qualification Level 3 in a relevant discipline

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Many positions require national security clearance and trade control restrictions, which may affect eligibility based on place of birth, nationality, citizenship, and residency.
