Design Training That Powers Defence Capability

The Role

As a Training Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a dynamic role ideal for experienced training analysts or those with domain expertise in Mission Systems (e.g., ISR, EW, UAS, communications, networks) looking to transition into the training line of business. Day-to-day, you’ll apply instructional design principles and project management skills to create and evaluate training programmes aligned with the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT). You’ll collaborate with subject matter experts, military personnel, and technical teams to ensure training is effective, engaging and mission ready.

  • Conducting DSAT (JSP822 compliant) activities including Training Needs Analysis and course design
  • Collaborating with system designers and stakeholders to align training with equipment support solutions
  • Representing training in customer working groups and maintaining project documentation
  • Designing blended learning solutions including eLearning, instructor-led and performance support

This role is full time (37 hours per week) and will require regular travel across a range of internal and customer sites on a weekly/monthly basis alongside home working arrangements.

Essential Experience Of The Training Specialist

  • Practical knowledge of DSAT (JSP822), ADDIE or SAM methodologies
  • Ability to manage training projects from concept to delivery using basic project management principles
  • Experience collaborating with Defence clients and internal teams to identify training needs
  • Proven ability to create and maintain engaging training materials and comprehensive reports
  • Strong analytical skills with experience applying evaluation models (e.g., Kirkpatrick) to drive learning impact

Qualifications For The Training Specialist

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., teaching, engineering, Level 6+ domain expertise) or equivalent experience demonstrating strong facilitation and learner engagement capabilities.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. This role may be subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. Details at UK GOV.UK.
