The role

As a Trainee Technician – Survival Equipment, you’ll be part of a specialist team maintaining and repairing critical survival equipment for aircrew operating in demanding environments. This is a hands‑on, highly skilled role where you’ll be trained to work on everything from protective flying helmets and night vision devices to life preservers and fire‑retardant clothing.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities

  • Maintaining, modifying and repairing survival and aircrew equipment to Military Aviation Authority standards.
  • Working with equipment such as helmets, harnesses, night vision goggles and life jackets.
  • Diagnosing faults and ensuring equipment is safe and operational.
  • Collaborating with a close‑knit team.
  • Learning and applying engineering principles in a practical, real‑world setting.

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.

This role is full time, 40 hours per week (08:00 am – 17:00 pm) and is based on site at RAF Shawbury.

  • Eyesight correctable to 6/6 standard.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. However, the successful candidate is eligible to start on Standard (BPSS) security check. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. Your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
