The Role
As a Security Guard, you’ll be at the heart of our mission to protect people, assets and infrastructure at one of the UK’s most strategic defence sites. This is more than just a security role, it’s a chance to contribute to national safety and support the Royal Navy’s critical operations. Day‑to‑day, you’ll be part of a professional team that ensures secure access to Devonport’s Limited Areas, working closely with internal and external stakeholders including MoD security teams.
Responsibilities
- Greeting staff and visitors, assigning security access in line with protocol.
- Conducting patrols on foot and in vehicles to prevent unauthorised access.
- Responding to alarms, medical alerts, and emergency situations.
- Collaborating with MoD and other security forces to maintain site safety.
- Promoting a strong security culture by challenging non‑compliance.
Please note that the successful candidate will be expected to work a flexible schedule, including weekend shifts, as required. This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport, Plymouth.
Shift Schedule
- Weekday shifts: Early Shift – 6.00 am – 2.15 pm, Backshift – 2.00 pm – 10.15 pm, Nightshift – 10.00 pm – 6.15 am
- Weekend shifts: Dayshift – 6.00 am – 6.15 pm, Nightshift – 6.00 pm – 6.15 am
- On‑call shift: One week out of 11 is on‑call – 6am‑6.15pm
Essential Experience
- Ability to work independently and make effective decisions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven customer service skills and relationship‑building ability.
- Comfortable working variable shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience in site patrols and emergency response.
Qualifications
Essential: Must be able to obtain SC Clearance from day one (more critical than SIA licence).
Preferred: SIA licence or equivalent security training.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
