About the Programme

As a Project Controls Apprentice, you\’ll be immersed in the technical disciplines of Cost Engineering, Estimating, Planning, Scheduling and Risk Management. Working alongside some of the most experienced and supportive individuals in the industry, you\’ll:

  • Assist in producing estimates, plans, and schedules.
  • Work on reports to track and monitor project delivery across a spectrum of nuclear engineering and decommissioning projects.
  • Receive training in our project controls systems.

Your education/training

You’ll receive practical and theoretical training, combined with on-the-job training in the workplace. Your academic journey will be at the University of Cumbria, where you\’ll work towards the Level 6 Project Controls Professional Apprenticeship and a BSc (Hons) Degree in Project Controls. Online learning at the University of Cumbria provides an interactive learning environment that uses a range of technologies and media. You’ll also be eligible to apply for student membership with the Association for Project Management (APM).

Future prospects

By the end of your apprenticeship, you\’ll be ready to take on roles such as Project Controller, Cost Engineer, Planning Engineer or Risk Specialist at Babcock. We\’ll support your development through the Babcock Role Framework, with clear pathways, development opportunities and tools to progress your career.

What You\’ll Need

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including Maths, English and Science.
  • At least 2 A Levels or an equivalent Level 3 qualification (e.g., BTEC).
  • Security clearance requirements: BPSS and Security Check (SC). Some restrictions may apply based on place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency. See UK GOV.UK for details.
