Role Overview
Shape the future of safe nuclear operations. At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Senior Radioactive Waste Engineer at our Devonport Royal Dockyard or Babcock Technology Centre sites.
Responsibilities
- Supporting management and mentoring waste engineers within the team.
- Providing customer and project‑facing technical support and advice.
- Producing governance documents and technical reports to underpin waste strategies.
- Ensuring compliance with UK nuclear industry legislation and best practice.
- Driving continuous improvement in waste characterisation, processing, and transport.
Essential Experience
- Applied understanding of radioactive waste management, including characterisation, processing, sentencing, packaging and transport.
- Extensive knowledge of environmental legislation in the UK nuclear industry.
- Ability to determine and apply Best Available Techniques (BAT) with robust justification.
- High levels of numeracy and IT proficiency, including data interpretation and spreadsheet development.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills for diverse audiences.
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant subject.
- Extensive radioactive waste management qualifications and/or experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
