The Role
As an Electrical Controls - Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to make a tangible impact—on national security, on engineering excellence, and on your own professional growth. Day‑to‑day, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and configuring mechanical handling systems that support some of the UK’s most critical defence infrastructure. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and innovation of lifting equipment and crane systems across our site.
- Deliver design and technical authority responsibilities for mechanical handling systems and equipment.
- Lead multidisciplinary projects across the full design lifecycle—from concept through to implementation.
- Produce engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and commissioning documentation.
- Manage technical queries and design deviations to maintain design intent.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and innovation.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with an expectation of 3 days in the office/onsite.
Essential Experience
- Demonstrated experience in the design and substantiation of mechanical systems and components.
- Strong understanding of engineering regulations, legislation, and standards.
- Proficiency in hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA).
- Ability to interpret and produce mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with crane systems, lifting equipment, and mechanical handling safety.
Qualifications
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering is essential.
- Professional membership (e.g., IMechE) – Desirable.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This may affect eligibility based on place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and residency.
