About the Programme
Our 2-year Administration Apprenticeship is a great way to start building your career in business administration. Based at Devonport Royal Dockyard, you’ll learn how to manage tasks, coordinate projects and support teams that help keep one of the UK’s most complex engineering sites running smoothly.
What You'll Do
You’ll support meetings, manage documents, greet visitors, order stationery, arrange travel, update systems, answer the company switchboard, cover the reception desk for one of our busy buildings and attend workshops at City College Plymouth. You will also take part in review sessions to track your progress. The first year includes three shorter placements, each about four months, exploring different parts of the business. In the second year, you’ll move into a longer placement, focusing on a specific area where you’ll develop coordination, documentation, enquiry handling and day‑to‑day support skills. Additionally, you’ll take part in projects that boost teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving skills such as charity fundraisers and career fair activities.
Training and Qualification
As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll study for the Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard through City College Plymouth. Training is delivered through workshops and guided learning sessions that help you apply skills to real work situations. Sessions focus on personal and professional development—confidence building, communication, time management and goal setting. Your qualification combines coursework, practical experience and an End‑Point Assessment.
Future Prospects
On completion, you’ll move into a permanent Administrator role in your final placement business area. Your starting salary will be around £26,364, with opportunities to progress further. You may also pursue additional qualifications such as Level 3 Business Administration or project management training. The Babcock Role Framework provides clear career pathways and development opportunities.
What You’ll Need
- 2 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above in Maths and English.
- Valid passport or provisional/full UK driving licence for Devonport Dockyard entry. If you do not have one, apply in advance.
- Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance, as required for this programme.
