The role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll provide high-quality engineering support within the areas of fuel route operations and/or plant systems. You will work collaboratively with internal team members, the client, and external contract partners to ensure all deliverables meet stakeholder expectations and project requirements. This role is key in maintaining operational excellence and ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant performance of engineering systems.

Day-to-day, you’ll take a hands-on approach to technical fault finding and problem-solving across plant systems, using your engineering background to identify issues and develop effective solutions. You’ll be involved in producing technical reports, documentation, and engineering drawings. This role suits someone who thrives on tackling complex challenges, enjoys working in a dynamic environment, and wants to make a tangible impact with their technical expertise.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards, as well as company policies and legislative requirements.
  • Conducting feasibility studies and site surveys in collaboration with station engineering staff.
  • Creating and updating engineering documentation, including mechanical drawings and quality plans.
  • Reviewing and approving contractor Work Risk Assessments and Method Statements (WRAMS).
  • Providing leadership and supervision to contractors, ensuring safe and high-standard work execution.
  • Promoting a strong Health and Safety culture through coaching and developing Task Risk Assessments.
  • Delivering complete turnkey work packages, including documentation, supervision, testing, and final sign-off.

This is a full-time role (37 hours/week) based onsite at Heysham 2 Power Station in Morecambe. Flexibility for extended hours and weekends during installation phases is required, sometimes at short notice.

Essential experience

  • Mechanical engineering knowledge or experience in a transferable industry. Nuclear experience is not mandatory.

Qualifications

  • HNC in relevant engineering discipline.
