The Role

As a Satellite Communications Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Babcock have been awarded the contract to manage the infrastructure for the UK MOD satellite network, Skynet. Day-to-day, you’ll undertake preventative and corrective maintenance on satellite communication terminals. This will involve maintaining the equipment to agreed levels of availability. The maintenance work covers:

  • RF Equipment Testing and Repair
  • Electrical Safety Inspection and Test
  • Generator Servicing and Test
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment
  • General Equipment Repair

Responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance and repairs on satellite ground equipment
  • Diagnose and fix faults across electrical, mechanical, RF, and software systems
  • Perform regular inspections (e.g., electrical safety, generators, lifting equipment)
  • Keep records of work done and report recurring issues
  • Build good relationships with customers and represent the business professionally

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role. This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Oakhanger, Hampshire.

Essential Experience

  • An experienced, hands-on engineer who can work across multiple technical areas (electrical, communications, systems) and enjoys problem-solving in an operational environment
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills and stakeholder management experience
  • IT Literate, MS Word, Excel, Access
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and interpret the system under fault conditions

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Engineering qualification in Electrical or Communications Engineering or equivalent

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
