At Babcock, we’re working together to create a safe and secure world. By joining us as a Product Safety Engineer, you’ll play a vital role across a range of internal and external sites throughout the UK, including Tewkesbury, Corsham, Bordon and Bristol.
The Role
As a Product Safety Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our mission-critical systems, supporting both UK defence and export customers. You will work on a variety of complex engineering projects, contributing to the development, assessment, and assurance of safety across the system lifecycle. Our projects cover strategic communications, tactical communications, weapon handling & launching systems and many more complex systems.
- Conduct safety assessments and risk analyses for systems and subsystems.
- Provide expert advice on safety engineering processes and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Support the integration of safety into system design and development activities and participate in design reviews, audits, and safety working groups.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including MOD clients, to ensure safety requirements are met.
- Develop and maintain Safety Case Reports, including supporting analyses such as Hazard Analysis and Functional Failure Analysis, ensuring compliance with relevant standards (e.g., DEF STAN 00-56).
- Detail understanding of hazard analysis and safety evaluation processes.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and requires flexible travel across a range of internal and customer sites on a weekly / monthly basis alongside home working arrangements.
Essential Experience of the Product Safety Engineer
- Familiarity with safety standards and legislation relevant to mission systems.
- Good verbal and written communication, analytical, problem-solving skills and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience in safety engineering within a high-integrity or regulated environment (e.g., defence, automotive, aerospace, rail or nuclear).
Qualifications for the Product Safety Engineer
- Degree in Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
