The role:
As an IT Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of a critical military satellite communications programme, supporting secure networks that operate in complex and demanding environments. You’ll help design, modernise, and maintain IT systems that underpin national defence capabilities - work that truly makes a difference to society.
This is an exciting opportunity to deepen your expertise in IT infrastructure, telecommunications, network management, and satellite‑enabled infrastructure, while working alongside specialists who share your passion for engineering excellence. Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Maintain, develop and improve on‑premise IT platform services to support critical national infrastructure.
- Ensure that services are patched and maintained according to internal and customer policies and procedures.
- Provide 3rd/4th line technical support to the customer, 3rd parties and wider satellite communication teams.
- Be part of an on‑call rota to support fault diagnosis and rectification out of normal working hours.
- Work within a team for the specification, development, and implementation of a new Hosting Platform.
- Provide systems level expertise to the evaluation, specification, and implementation of new capabilities on the system.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and predominantly based at our Hawthorne site near Corsham, Wiltshire, with flexibility for home working dependent on business needs.
Essential Experience Of The IT Infrastructure Engineer:
- Experience designing, building or supporting on‑premise infrastructure and virtualisation solutions based on VMWare ESX, VCentre and VCF.
- Operating system support such as Redhat Linux, Windows 11, Windows Server 2022 and 2025.
- Identity and Access Management such as Windows Active Directory.
- Detailed understanding of IP networking and controls.
- Some software scripting and debugging expertise would be an advantage.
Qualifications For The IT Infrastructure Engineer:
- Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant Engineering Discipline.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance for this role. Must be Sole UK National.
