The role
As a Senior Safety Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of delivering engineering excellence for the Type 26 Class Managed Equipment (CME) programme. This is an exciting opportunity to shape through-life support solutions for one of the Royal Navy’s most advanced warships. Your work will ensure compliance with MOD policy and safety and environmental legislation, making a real difference to national security and sustainability.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Providing professional safety and environmental engineering support to T26 transition-to-service projects.
- Delivering safety and environmental case input for non-conformances and design changes.
- Supporting other members of the Warship Technical Authority team with your expertise.
- Escalating and communicating project risks in the safety and environmental domain.
- Acting as Equipment Technical Authority for through-life customer support.
This role is full time and is a hybrid role with 2 days onsite and 3 days working from home. This role can be operated from anywhere in the UK.
Essential experience of the Senior Safety Engineer:
- Strong leadership, management, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to make decisions within your area of responsibility.
- Proven track record of delivering outputs to quality, time, and budget.
- Commitment to design safety and willingness to challenge when necessary.
- Self-motivated with a desire to learn and develop.
Qualifications for the Senior Safety Engineer:
- Ideally degree-qualified in an engineering discipline (or extensive relevant experience).
- Preferably hold Defence Maritime Regulator’s SEMT or SSMO certification (training can be arranged).
- Membership of a relevant institution (e.g., IExpE, IMechE, RINA, IET) and Chartered or Incorporated status (or working towards).
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
