Lead Complex Naval Engineering Projects

The role

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll work across Babcock’s shipbuilding lines of business, including Type 31, MRSS, Fast Attack Project, Corvette Project, Arrowhead exports, large refit programmes, and other exciting opportunities in the pipeline. Your leadership will ensure technical excellence, manage risk, and shape the future of naval engineering — all while supporting national security and advancing your own career.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Act as delegated Technical Authority for systems/functions within a design in line with Design Authority principles.
  • Manage stakeholders to ensure delivery of outputs meets project plans and contract quality standards.
  • Oversee technical risk management and resolve complex engineering issues.
  • Independently review technical development and assist in resolving design challenges.
  • Ensure designs and supplier equipment meet contractual requirements.

This role is full time and is a hybrid role with 2 days onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Engineering Manager:

  • Proven knowledge and experience in naval surface shipbuilding within your area of expertise.
  • Ability to manage international customers and adapt to cultural differences.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, including extended visits to customer sites.

Qualifications for the Engineering Manager:

  • Chartered Engineer status and an engineering degree (or equivalent academic standard).
  • Association of Project Management (APM) Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent.
  • Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
