The role

As an Electronics Engineering Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will lead a team of electronic and electrical engineering specialists who design, develop and integrate complex systems that support some of the UK’s most important defence capabilities. This is a strategic and technically dynamic role where you will guide engineering delivery, develop solutions for challenging electronic architectures and ensure systems meet demanding safety, compliance and performance requirements. You will have the opportunity to influence high profile programmes, grow engineering capability and support your own professional development in an environment that values innovation, collaboration and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership to engineers delivering electronic and vehicle electrical design activities
  • Oversee vetronics integration across multiple platforms and programmes
  • Lead EMC planning, design controls, testing and compliance activities aligned to defence and automotive standards
  • Ensure outputs follow Safe by Design, Design for Manufacture, Design for Cost and Design for Reliability and Maintainability principles
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent technical delivery across programmes

This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days in the office/onsite and days working from home. This can be based at any of our main UK locations including Bristol, Devonport, Plymouth or Walsall.

Essential experience

  • Significant experience in vetronics, electronic systems or vehicle electrical engineering within defence, automotive or other regulated sectors
  • Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and delivering complex integration activities
  • Strong understanding of requirements and interface management and experience in system architecture development
  • Knowledge of vehicle power systems including 12V, 24V and 240V architectures, power distribution, harnessing and load analysis

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
  • Strong understanding of defence and automotive electrical standards and frameworks such as GVA, Def Stan and MILSTD, plus EMC compliance standards

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
