The role

As a Commissioning Environmental Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will play a key role in supporting the commissioning of the first new nuclear power station built in the UK for a generation. This is an opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant infrastructure programme while helping to ensure that commissioning activities are delivered safely, responsibly, and with minimal impact on the environment.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Create, maintain, and improve environmental safety controls across the commissioning programme.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and review environmental activities in line with the HPC Safety Management System and Environmental Management Plans.
  • Produce environmental safety performance reports, identifying trends, early warnings and recommending improvements.
  • Engage with and influence commissioning teams on environmental issues, hazards, and risks.
  • Undertake assessments, inspections, and assurance activities to support compliance with legal and regulatory duties.

This is a full‑time role working 37 hours per week at Hinkley Point C.

Essential experience

  • Experience or understanding of environmental compliance within a regulated industry.
  • Experience of writing, implementing or reviewing environmental specifications and environmental risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of the UK environmental permitting and waste management framework.
  • Ability to present environmental data clearly and produce high‑quality reports and records.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.

Qualifications

Degree in an environmental discipline or equivalent level of experience.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
