Overview
Research Fellow in Criminology and Criminal Justice – Nottingham Trent University (NTU). Department: Criminology and Criminal Justice within the School of Social Sciences. Fixed term contracts with multiple positions available (Grade G and Grade H).
Responsibilities
We have an opportunity for a Research Fellow to support an evaluation of the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) Neighbourhood Fund. This evaluates whether empowering people to make decisions about their local neighbourhoods can prevent children from becoming involved in violence. You will work within a consortium from NTU and Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) to support the evaluation across five hyper sites in Birmingham, Manchester, Norfolk, Cardiff and Bradford. This is a mixed methods evaluation requiring
- experience with quantitative statistical analysis
- competence in using R Studio or SPSS
- a good understanding of quasi-experimental research methods
You should be a strong communicator and comfortable working flexibly within a team. Desirable: experience conducting interviews and focus groups with community members and practitioners; confidence engaging with young people. For the Grade H role, responsibilities include secondary data analysis to examine when and where young people are most at risk of serious violence, and to explore drivers and protective factors of risk, funded by YEF. This includes basic to advanced analyses (regression, GIS) and experience with open-source data and police data is desirable.
Interview dates: Weeks commencing 13th (Grade G) and 20th October (Grade H).
Qualifications
Strong quantitative analysis skills, statistics training, and experience with SPSS/R Studio and GIS software for basic and advanced analyses. Experience with open-source data and collaboration with police data is desirable. We welcome applicants who do not meet every requirement but encourage applying even if not a perfect match.
