About the HGV Driver - Class 1 job
The purpose of your role will be to move trucks around the yard, make local and regional (up to 100 miles from Wigan) deliveries to multiple stops, and returning loads on the way back. You’ll help keep goods moving smoothly between depot, customers, and suppliers.
Key tasks
- Be responsible for moving raw materials and finished goods between the factory and external storage facilities, performing local deliveries to customers using curtain-sider vehicles, and managing backhauls from suppliers or returns locations.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks, reporting any defects, and ensuring full compliance with UK driving laws, tachograph regulations, and Working Time Directives as well as logging accurate records of vehicle movements and deliveries must also be maintained.
- You will work closely with warehouse and transport teams to coordinate loading and unloading, while following all Health & Safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
- Report hazards, near-misses and incidents immediately; support investigations as well as using, maintain and storing PPE correctly always keeping work areas safe and tidy.
About You
- The successful candidate shall hold a valid HGV Class 1 (CE) license, a Driver CPC, and a Digital Tachograph Card.
- Ideally, you will have at least six months of HGV driving experience, including shunting operations or yard driving.
- A good understanding of the local area is important, along with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- The role requires being physically fit and comfortable with manual handling tasks.

The HGV Driver job (ref:8982) is paying £28,000 to £35,000 per annum, dependant on abilities and according to your experience. The site/warehouse is in Wigan, Greater Manchester and is commutable from Manchester, Bolton, Warrington, Preston, Ormskirk, St Helens, Chorley and Bury, along with other areas of Lancashire and Merseyside. The working hours are Monday to Friday, 39 hours a week, start time is flexible as depends on delivery location, can be 5:00am – 8:00am.
