About the Specifications & Technical Coordinator job

The purpose of your role will be to support the Technical Manager in maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality, legality, and authenticity across the business. You will provide day-to-day technical support, working closely with customers and suppliers. You will also deputise for the Technical Manager when required to support the needs of the business.

Key tasks:

  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance with legal, customer and industry requirements. This includes maintaining technical documentation, supporting internal audits, and monitoring regulatory updates.
  • Manage supplier approval activities, reviewing supplier documentation and maintaining approval records to ensure compliance with customer and business requirements. You will also support supplier audits and help monitor supplier performance.
  • Coordinate product approvals, maintain product specifications and technical documentation, and ensure packaging and artwork meet legal and customer requirements. You will also support product testing and the management of technical product information.
  • Act as a key technical contact for customers, responding to enquiries, completing technical documentation, and supporting product development projects. Working closely with customers and suppliers, you will help ensure products meet agreed standards and expectations.
  • Support investigation and resolution of customer complaints and non-conformances, maintain technical records and reports, and contribute to continuous improvement activities. You will also provide support to the Technical Manager and deputise when required.

About You:

  • The successful candidate will hold a degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Product Development or a related discipline, or have equivalent industry experience.
  • At least three years' experience in a Technical or Quality role within food manufacturing or fresh produce, with proven experience in product approval, specification management, and supporting retailer and BRC audits.
  • Experience working with major UK retailers, particularly M&S and Sainsbury's, is highly desirable. A HACCP Level 2 qualification, strong communication and organisational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Teams are essential.

The Specifications & Technical Coordinator job (ref:9073) is paying up to £39,000 according to your experience. This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week on site and 2 working from home. The offices are based in Devon and are commutable from Exeter, Honiton, Tiverton, Crediton, Newton Abbot, Exmouth, Torquay and surrounding areas. The package includes a company and individual KPI-related bonus, pension scheme and 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing up to 30 days with years of service). The working hours are Monday to Friday, office hours with hybrid working.
