The role will be based out of our Basingstoke (RG21 5PL) or Copthorne (RH6 9TE) office.

Overview:

This is an opportunity for an experienced Estimating Manager to join one of the leading SME contractors in the South and East of England.

You will be responsible for Overall responsibility for the Tender function, and to ensure that the Company secures work in line with its objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regularly review the 3-year Budget and monthly Forecast so as to submit winning bids to achieve them, and identify and support recruitment of additional resources as necessary
  • Understand the bid pipeline in the short/medium term.
  • Regularly update and manage the central library of supporting information for Tenders.
  • Ensuring bid/no bid decisions are taken that benefit the Company.
  • Lead Tenders, developing and implementing winning bid strategies and providing the engineering and operations team with the support they need to develop winning proposals.
  • Manage and ensure Estimators compile the Tender in a thorough, logical and consistent manner and ensuring the finalised estimate is properly signed off in accordance with process.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to Project teams on submitting successful technical supporting information on Pre-Quals and Tenders.
  • Ensure Tender and Pre-Qual documentation is received, checked, and handled in line with B. & M. McHugh procedures, maintaining the enquiry tracking database, including allocation of enquiry and contract numbers.
  • Attend meetings with the Construction, Delivery, Commercial or Design teams as required both during and post tender.
  • Provide the Commercial team with information and support so they can agree final terms and sign off on the contract.
  • Ensure risk and opportunities are identified and properly evaluated to develop a winning bid and avoid exposing the Company to unnecessary risks.

Skills/Expertise:

  • Higher level (HNC or Degree) qualification in associated fields.
  • At least 10 - 15 years estimating experience in construction; buildings and civils would be an advantage.
  • At least 5 – 10 years of direct line management of others.
  • Communicates effectively and able to speak, listen and write in good English and in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication techniques and tools.
  • A team player, operating cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organisational effectiveness.
  • Experienced in leading and developing a diverse team including managing performance and skills development.
  • IT proficient in MS Office, particularly in Excel and Word.
  • Holds a full driving licence.
