The Role: As Air Conditioning Technical Manager, you will act as the company's technical authority for all air conditioning works — ensuring compliance, high standards, and continuous improvement across both service and project operations. You will manage a team of engineers, provide hands‐on technical support, and drive operational excellence throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Operational Management
- Lead, manage, and support a team of service and installation engineers.
- Oversee daily scheduling, performance management, and resource allocation.
- Conduct technical briefings, on‐site audits, and performance reviews to uphold standards.
- Ensure best‐value procurement of materials, plant, and equipment.
- Support engineer training and professional development.
- Technical Support & Problem Solving
- Provide advanced technical assistance on complex faults, diagnostics, and commissioning.
- Serve as the company's lead technical advisor on VRF/VRV systems, chillers, AHUs, and splits.
- Support estimating and operations teams with technical input on tenders and quotations.
- Stay up to date with industry standards, manufacturer updates, and new technologies.
- Contribute to strategic planning around technical standards and service delivery models.
- Provide technical input and oversight into larger air conditioning projects.
- Health & Safety Compliance
- Develop and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Ensure engineers work safely and in line with statutory and company procedures.
- Collaborate with the Health & Safety team to promote a proactive safety culture.
- Champion safe working practices and ongoing compliance training.
- Project Coordination & Delivery
- Oversee technical delivery of installation and maintenance works.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Assist with commissioning, testing, and quality documentation.
- Manage small installation projects from setup to client handover.
- Build strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
- Provide technical reports or presentations where required.
- Respond promptly to client queries and technical challenges.
About You: You'll be a technically strong leader who enjoys guiding teams, solving problems, and improving standards across a busy HVAC operation. You'll bring:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in the commercial air conditioning industry (service or project management).
- F-Gas Category 1 qualification (City & Guilds 2079 or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of VRF/VRV systems (Daikin, Mitsubishi, Toshiba) plus experience with chillers, AHUs, and split systems.
- Proven experience leading or supervising field engineers.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC design, commissioning, and fault diagnostics.
- Experience producing and reviewing RAMS.
- Full UK driving licence.
