We are recruiting on behalf of a professional accountancy firm based in Manchester City Centre that is looking to appoint a motivated Trainee Accountant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to start or develop their career in accounting while gaining real experience within an accountancy practice. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced accountants and support the team with bookkeeping, VAT returns, payroll, accounts preparation, tax administration, and client support.
The Role
As a Trainee Accountant, you will assist with a variety of accounting tasks for different clients. You will help maintain financial records, process invoices and payments, complete bank reconciliations, organise client documents, and support the preparation of VAT returns and year-end accounts. You will also gain exposure to accounting software and learn how to manage client work accurately and professionally. Over time, as your skills and confidence develop, you will be given more responsibility and the opportunity to support more complex accounting tasks. This is a hands-on role where you will gain practical experience and learn how an accountancy practice operates on a day-to-day basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with bookkeeping for a range of clients
- Processing sales invoices, purchase invoices, receipts, and payments
- Completing bank reconciliations
- Supporting with VAT return preparation
- Assisting with payroll administration
- Helping prepare year-end accounts files
- Organising and updating client records
- Using software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Excel
- Communicating with clients by email and phone when required
- Supporting senior accountants with deadlines and client queries
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation
- Learning accounting processes, tax rules, and practice procedures
About You
The firm is looking for someone who has a genuine interest in accounting and is willing to learn. Previous experience is helpful, but it is not essential. What matters most is your attitude, attention to detail, reliability, and desire to develop within the profession. This role would be suitable for a graduate, college leaver, AAT student, or someone who has completed accounting training and is now looking to gain practical experience in a professional environment.
