This role is ideal for someone who wants to build a long-term career in accounting and gain practical, hands-on experience within an accountancy practice. You will work closely with senior accountants and managers, supporting them with day-to-day client work across bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, accounts preparation, and general finance administration.

The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to learn how an accountancy firm operates, work with real client records, use accounting software, and develop the technical skills needed to progress within the profession.

Over time, you will be given more responsibility as your confidence and technical knowledge develops. This is a varied role where no two days will be exactly the same. You may be working on bookkeeping for one client, supporting VAT returns for another, helping prepare accounts files, or assisting senior staff with client queries and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with bookkeeping for a range of clients
  • Processing sales invoices, purchase invoices, receipts, and payments
  • Completing bank reconciliations
  • Supporting the preparation of VAT returns
  • Assisting with payroll administration

  • Using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, and Excel
  • Communicating with clients by email and phone when required
  • Supporting senior accountants with client deadlines
  • Maintaining organised files and documentation
  • Learning accounting processes, tax rules, and practice procedures

About You

This role would suit someone who is reliable, organised, and genuinely interested in building a career in accounting. You do not need to be fully experienced, but you should be willing to learn, comfortable working with numbers, and able to pay close attention to detail. The firm is looking for someone who can take instructions, ask questions when needed, and develop their skills over time.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in accounting and finance
  • Good attention to detail
  • Confident with numbers
  • Basic Microsoft Excel skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Organised and able to manage tasks properly
  • Professional attitude
