Your Role: The Microbiology Lead (Aseptic Services) will lead the microbiological programme within a licensed Specials Aseptic Manufacturing environment, providing expert support to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient production of unlicensed medicines and aseptically prepared products. This role is responsible for delivering a high-quality microbiological service within a regulated setting, with a strong focus on maintaining compliance. Key activities include environmental monitoring, microbiological testing and validation, and supporting both quality and manufacturing teams in alignment with current GMP guidelines.
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday (onsite) Location: Thorncliffe Park, Sheffield, S35 2PW – located just off Junction 35A of the M1. We offer free car parking.
Your main responsibilities:
- Lead the microbiological program with the Aseptic Production Unit
- Support microbiological analyses including environmental monitoring, review of environmental results and responsibility for working with external microbiology providers for sterility testing, and microbial identification.
- Interpret test results, investigate trends, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support microbiology impact of routine aseptic processing including media fills and operator validations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of aseptic processes and contamination control and the contamination control strategy.
What you need to succeed:
- A degree (or equivalent) in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years working in a pharmaceutical or aseptic manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of GMP and microbiological testing techniques.
- High level of attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a regulated environment.
- Ability to investigate and problem-solve effectively.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
