An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Civil Engineer to join a highly respected consulting engineering practice in Bath, renowned for delivering innovative solutions across both historic and contemporary projects throughout the UK. This is an opportunity to take a leading role in the delivery of a diverse portfolio of schemes, ranging from nationally significant heritage and conservation projects to modern commercial, residential, educational, and mixed-use developments. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects, leading design delivery, and mentoring junior engineers while working closely with architects, developers, and multidisciplinary project teams.

The practice has built an outstanding reputation for combining technical excellence with creativity, working on everything from listed buildings and historic estates to major university developments and landmark new-build projects. The Role

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will take ownership of civil engineering projects from concept through to completion, providing both technical leadership and project management expertise. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design and delivery of civil engineering projects across a range of sectors.
  • Designing drainage systems, including surface water, foul water, SuDS, and below-ground drainage networks.
  • Preparing drainage strategies, flood risk assessments, and supporting planning applications.
  • Delivering infrastructure, highways, and external works design packages.
  • Managing project programmes, budgets, and client relationships.
  • Coordinating with architects, contractors, local authorities, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Undertaking site visits and supporting projects throughout the construction phase.
  • Reviewing and checking technical designs and calculations.
  • Mentoring and supporting the development of junior engineers.
  • Delivering innovative, practical, and sustainable engineering solutions.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5–10 years' experience within a civil engineering consultancy environment.
  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in drainage design, including SuDS, drainage strategies, and flood risk considerations.
  • Experience delivering infrastructure and external works packages for development projects.
  • A thorough understanding of relevant UK design standards and industry guidance.
  • Strong project management and client-facing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior engineers.
  • Chartered status or progress towards Chartership with ICE would be advantageous.
