The Role:
As Head of Solutions Architecture, you will lead the Solutions Engineering function and act as the senior technical authority supporting the commercial team. You will work closely with customers to understand their business challenges, identify opportunities, and design best-fit technical solutions that clearly articulate value. The role is highly customer-facing and will involve regular attendance at client meetings, delivery of workshops, webinars, and events, and close collaboration with sales leadership. You will also be responsible for developing and mentoring an established team of Solutions Engineers, setting standards for technical quality, customer engagement, and best practice. Reporting directly into senior leadership, this role sits at the heart of the organisation’s growth strategy and offers genuine influence and progression.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Solutions Engineering team, providing both operational management and strategic direction.
- Deliver high-quality technical pre-sales services to new and existing customers.
- Act as a trusted technical adviser throughout the full sales lifecycle.
- Support the sales team with technical expertise during discovery, qualification, and solution design.
- Deliver engaging product presentations, demonstrations, webinars, and customer workshops.
- Design and deliver tailored demonstrations and Proofs of Concept (POCs).
- Analyse competing technologies and recommend the most appropriate solutions based on customer needs.
- Lead solution architecture and contribute to proposals, scopes of work, and tender responses.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- Proven experience in a senior Technical Pre-Sales Engineer or Solutions Architect role.
- Background working within an IT MSP or VAR environment.
- Broad technical knowledge across IT infrastructure and security, with the ability to engage confidently with customers.
- Strong customer-facing experience within pre-sales, consultancy, or technical delivery.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Motivated, proactive, and driven to deliver high standards.
- Willingness to travel nationally as required.
- Strong written skills, including proposals and customer-facing documentation.
- Full, clean UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.
Desirable:
- Previous experience leading or managing a technical or pre-sales team.
- Certifications or hands-on experience with enterprise technologies such as networking, security, virtualisation, and cloud platforms (e.g. Microsoft Azure/M365).
- Experience presenting to both small and large audiences, including webinars and workshops.
- Evidence of technical thought leadership or content creation.
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance technical depth with business value.
- Excellent organisational and relationship-building skills.
