My client, a bespoke MEP and Sustainability Consultancy based in Bristol, is searching for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their friendly team. This is a hybrid role, offering varied projects spanning commercial, industrial, healthcare, care homes, residential and mixed–use developments. This opportunity is available with a market leading Consultancy who specialise in sustainable builds and MEP design.

Responsibilities

  • Complete detailed HVAC designs using AutoCAD and Revit for healthcare, residential, education and commercial development projects for both public and private sector clients.
  • Complete 2D and 3D models, perform heat load calculations, duct sizing, pipe sizing, and equipment selection using relevant software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, IES, Open Buildings or Elite).
  • Prepare and review mechanical drawings, schematics, simulations and technical specifications in accordance with building codes, sustainability goals, and project requirements.
  • Design to BIM level 2 in accordance with British Standards PAS 1192–5.
  • Collaborate with electrical, plumbing, and structural engineers to ensure coordinated MEP layouts and avoid design clashes.
  • Attend internal and client meetings to resolve design issues/queries and align project objectives.
  • Review designs submitted by the team and respond to RFIs (Requests for Information).
  • Site visits to monitor installation quality, verify compliance with original designs and highlight issues during construction.
  • Evaluate new materials and designs ensuring energy efficiency and cost–effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues on design projects and check technical work.

Qualifications

  • BSc and/or MSc Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering with experience completing detailed HVAC designs for healthcare, residential and commercial schemes.
  • Design experience for industrial and retail sites is also a bonus.
  • Detailed knowledge of PAS 1192–5 and other relevant codes and a keen understanding of BREEAM and net zero.
  • Valid UK driving licence to visit sites across the region.
