An established and growing building services consultancy is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join its expanding engineering team in Cambridge. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to take ownership of projects, work within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, and contribute to technically challenging developments across a variety of sectors.
The consultancy delivers innovative and sustainable engineering solutions across commercial, residential, healthcare, education, mixed-use, and public sector developments. Due to continued project growth, they are looking to appoint a technically strong and commercially aware engineer capable of supporting project delivery from concept through to completion.
The Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering electrical building services designs across multiple projects and sectors. The position will involve managing technical design outputs, supporting project coordination, and working closely with clients, consultants, and internal engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery. The role will also include overseeing coordinated design information, contributing to technical problem-solving, and ensuring all work is completed in line with current industry standards and project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the delivery of electrical building services designs across a range of projects
- Prepare detailed engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation
- Coordinate closely with Revit and CAD teams to ensure accurate and integrated project information
- Contribute to multidisciplinary project coordination and technical design reviews
- Ensure engineering deliverables are completed within agreed project programmes
- Identify technical risks, design challenges, and project issues, escalating where necessary
- Attend client and design team meetings, presenting engineering solutions clearly and professionally
- Support sustainable and efficient design strategies throughout project stages
- Maintain awareness of commercial considerations during project delivery
Leadership & Team Support
As a senior member of the engineering team, the successful candidate will support and mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing guidance on technical development and engineering best practice. The role will involve contributing to a collaborative team culture while helping maintain high standards of design quality across all projects.
Candidate Requirements
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Typically, 5+ years’ experience within a building services consultancy
- Experience delivering electrical design solutions across multiple sectors
- Strong understanding of multidisciplinary project environments
- Working towards or already holding professional accreditation such as CIBSE or IET
- Proficiency with industry-standard software including: Revit and CAD, Bluebeam, Amtech, Dialux, Relux, IES, or equivalent design packages
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage workload effectively across multiple projects
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within project teams
Salary & Benefits
- £50,000 – £60,000 depending on experience
