A growing building services and sustainability consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Building Physics Engineer to lead the mechanical and building performance side of its Manchester team. This is a key strategic hire for the business, suited to someone with strong technical expertise in building physics, energy modelling, and mechanical design integration, who is looking to take ownership of project delivery and help shape the growth of the team.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in delivering building performance and sustainability strategies across a broad range of projects, while acting as the mechanical/building physics lead within the team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading building physics and energy modelling workstreams across multiple projects
  • Delivering dynamic simulation modelling and building performance analysis using IES VE or similar tools
  • Carrying out overheating assessments, operational energy modelling, and thermal comfort analysis
  • Supporting low-carbon mechanical design strategies and sustainable building performance
  • Providing technical leadership across mechanical and sustainability-focused projects
  • Working closely with MEP engineers, architects, and design teams to influence project outcomes
  • Leading client meetings and presenting technical findings clearly
  • Mentoring junior engineers and supporting team development
  • Supporting business growth and contributing to technical excellence within the team

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience at Senior or Principal level within building physics or building services consultancy
  • Strong background in IES VE and dynamic simulation modelling
  • Solid understanding of mechanical building services and sustainable design principles
  • Experience delivering TM52, TM54, Part L, and overheating assessments
  • Ability to lead projects and manage client relationships
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or similar
