My client, a bespoke MEP and Sustainability Consultancy based in Birmingham, is searching for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their friendly team. This is a hybrid role, offering varied projects spanning commercial, industrial, healthcare, care homes, residential and mixed-use developments. This opportunity is available with a market leading Consultancy who specialise in sustainable builds and MEP design.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be expected to complete detailed HVAC designs using AutoCAD and Revit for healthcare, residential, education and commercial development projects for both public and private sector clients. You will also be expected to:
- Complete 2D and 3D models, perform heat load calculations, duct sizing, pipe sizing, and equipment selection using relevant software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, IES, Open Buildings or Elite).
- Prepare and review mechanical drawings, schematics, simulations and technical specifications in accordance with building codes, sustainability goals, and project requirements.
- Design to BIM level 2 in accordance with British Standards PAS 1192-5.
- Collaborate with electrical, plumbing, and structural engineers to ensure coordinated MEP layouts and avoid design clashes.
- Attend internal and client meetings to resolve design issues/queries and align project objectives.
- Review designs submitted by the team and respond to RFIs (Requests for Information).
- Site visits to monitor installation quality, verify compliance with original designs and highlight issues during construction.
- Evaluate new materials and designs ensuring energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues on design projects and check technical work.
This role offers hybrid working (3 days a week in the office), a friendly and supportive team, and career progression. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be expected to have a BSc and/or an MSc in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering and have experience working for UK based Consultancy completing detailed HVAC designs for healthcare, residential and commercial schemes. Design experience for industrial and retail sites is also a bonus. You are also required to have a detailed knowledge of PAS 1192-5 and other relevant codes and have a keen understanding of BREEAM and net zero. Candidates are required to have a valid UK driving licence to visit sites across the region.
