You will be required to work from the office on a hybrid basis but initially full time.

As an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer, you will join an experienced team to complete, check and amend detailed HVAC designs for educational, commercial, residential and industrial developments across the UK.

You will be required to manage the team, mentor staff and liaise with clients to discuss project development. You will be expected to complete, check and amend detailed mechanical designs including heating, ventilation, domestic hot and cold water systems, air source heat pumps and air-conditioning using AutoCAD and Revit.

You will also be expected to review, check and complete 2D and 3D models, heat load calculations, thermal comfort modelling (TM52/TM59), IES energy modelling and digital twin simulation, duct sizing, pipe sizing, and equipment selection using relevant software (e.g. Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, or Elite).

You will also check and review mechanical drawings, schematics, simulations and technical specifications in accordance with building codes, sustainability goals, and project requirements.

The role will also involve overseeing the work completed by the technical team to ensure designs and calculations are completed to a high standard. You will also be involved in:

  • Project management and client liaison to ensure projects are delivered to time and budget.
  • Team mentoring, providing technical advice when needed.
  • Check and amend technical work.
  • Develop new business opportunities with new and existing clients.
  • Heating and cooling load assessments.
  • Designing to BIM level 2 in accordance with British Standards PAS 1192-5.
  • Low-carbon system design (ASHPs, GSHPs, WSHPs, VRF/VRV).
  • Mechanical ventilation & heat recovery (MVHR).
  • Building Management System (BMS) integration.
  • Attend internal and external meetings with clients and contractors on site to resolve design issues/queries and align project objectives.
  • Review designs and respond to RFIs (Requests for Information).
  • Site visits to monitor installation quality, verify compliance with original designs and highlight issues during construction.
  • Liaise with design teams, architectural teams and site engineers to ensure designs are installed to specifications and client requirements.
  • Evaluate new materials and designs ensuring energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

As an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be expected to have a BSc and/or an MSc in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering and have achieved Chartered status. You will be an expert in mechanical design specifically of HVAC designs for educational, residential, commercial and retail outlets using AutoCAD and Revit for UK based projects, adhering to UK standards and Eurocodes.

You are also required to have experience managing projects, mentoring team members and have a detailed knowledge of PAS 1192-5, RIBA stage 4 and other relevant codes. You will also be expected to have a keen understanding of BREEAM and net zero and live within commutable distance of central London.

This role will require a driving licence to attend site visits.
