Electrical Design Engineer with a keen interest in electrical design and product development to join our team based in Irlam, Manchester. The ideal candidate must have experience in electrical design with an understanding of control systems engineering, along with a natural problem-solving ability.
Working as a member of the team, this role will involve working closely with our customers, some international travel, and a degree of involvement in the development of existing and new product design from initial concept to manufacturing. You will be interested in expanding your knowledge and above all, you’ll thrive on being empowered to find innovative solutions to challenging problems, in a supportive and flexible working environment.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Design electrical hardware, low voltage electrical circuits including Electrical Requirement and Development Specifications for products from concept through release.
- Select and specify sensors, motors, PCBs, wiring harnesses.
- Work with team members from mechanical design, production and supply chain to introduce new products and product variations.
- Develop and maintain Electrical panel schematics, controls, and systems schematics for large equipment.
- May contribute to total system engineering.
- May be involved in all phases of design and development from initial concept to manufacturing.
- Conduct experimental tests on equipment and evaluate results.
- May also review vendors’ abilities to support development.
- Depending on level, may function as a project engineer with the resident responsibilities of proposals, technical presentations, cross-functional issue resolution, etc.
- Expected to keep up to date on technical advances in the discipline and related fields.
What You’ll Bring:
- BSc in Electrical, Electronic or Control Systems Engineering or equivalent.
- Significant experience in a related field, preferably serving the Life Science sector.
- Knowledge of CE Machinery Safety, EMC Compliance, UL Safety Standards.
- Experience in programmable safety PLCs complying with latest machinery regulations.
- Electrical and control systems design for environment control applications (e.g., refrigeration).
- Experience in CAN distributed control networks.
- Preferred: Experience in PCB schematic/layout using Altium Designer, ORCAD, or similar.
- Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Oracle/Agile, or similar).
- Experience within a controls product development background and/or PLC Design is desirable.
- Good working knowledge of SolidWorks/AutoCAD or other electrical design CAD systems is preferred.
