Applications are invited for three PhD Studentships in the Department of Statistical Science at University College London (UCL). These studentships are open to both Home and Overseas applicants and may cover any topic within the remit of Statistical Science. Successful candidates are expected to commence their studies in October 2025, with the possibility of a February 2026 start, in accordance with UCL regulations.
The Department of Statistical Science at UCL is one of the largest in the UK, comprising over 30 academic staff members. Research is organized into six key themes: Causality; Computational Statistics and Machine Learning; Economics, Finance and Business; Environmental Statistics; Probability; and Statistics in Biomedicine and Health Economics. Many research projects are interdisciplinary and involve collaborations both within UCL and with external partners.
Each studentship is awarded for a duration of 3.5 years (or 6 years for part-time students) and includes full tuition fees, an annual maintenance stipend (valued at £22,237 for 2024/25, with expected increases for subsequent years), and a research training allowance. Full-time students will also be required to dedicate six months to teaching duties, distributed over the course of the studentship, with the remainder of their time focused on research.
Requirements
– A first class or high upper second class Bachelor’s degree, or a Master’s degree with merit or distinction, in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
