Our client, a global engineering firm based in South Ayrshire, is looking for an Accounts Assistant to join their team on a permanent basis. The ideal candidate should possess a solid understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, and compliance requirements. This position offers flexible working hours, ranging from 25 to 35 hours per week, within the timeframe of 9am to 5pm. The specific hours will be agreed upon prior to starting. Please note that the role will be entirely office-based at the company’s location near Ayr, although home working may be permitted in urgent situations. The goal is to have a suitable candidate on board by late February or early March.
Role Responsibilities
- Maintain precise financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
- Prepare financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Oversee payroll processing while ensuring adherence to statutory requirements.
- Reconcile bank statements and monitor cash flow.
- Monitor and report on manufacturing expenses, including raw materials, labour, and overhead costs.
- Assist in the budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and prepare VAT returns, including VAT procedures related to imports and exports.
- Collaborate with management to provide financial insights that support decision-making.
- Assist with external audits and coordinate with accountants as necessary.
- Maintain accurate documentation for the company’s Net Zero plan.
- Update and report on the progress of Net Zero initiatives to management.
Required Skill
- Demonstrated experience as an Accounts Administrator, ideally within a manufacturing setting.
- In-depth understanding of accounting principles and cost accounting.
- Proficient in Sage accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Capability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
- Familiarity with local laws and compliance regulations.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of accounts administration experience.
- Familiarity with inventory management and production costing.
- Experience in an SME setting is highly desirable.
