About the Role
Provide one-to-one support to a friendly, curious young man with neurodiversity and learning disabilities. The role involves routine, clear communication, advance notice of plans, and consistency. Accompany the young man to activities such as swimming, cinema, bowling, coffee, parks, beaches, and community outings. Offer respite time for his mother while supporting the young man’s independence, confidence, and positive experiences.
About You
- Calm, patient, dependable, and able to give structure and clear guidance.
- Good understanding of neurodiversity or willingness to learn is preferred.
- Communicates clearly and kindly, is organised, plans activities in advance, and respects routine.
- Demonstrates flexibility, a positive attitude, and interest in supporting individuals with additional needs.
Key Skills and Qualities
- Comfortable working with someone who prefers routine and clear rules.
- Able to provide reassurance when plans change.
- Confident supporting in community settings.
- Understanding of sensory needs and patience with communication differences.
- Ability to adapt approach to suit the individual.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the young man’s safety, confidence, and support.
- Facilitate routine, structured activities, and clear communication.
- Encourage independence and positive experiences while giving the young man a sense of predictability.
- Provide the family with respite by allowing the mother time to spend with her other children.
- Maintain consistency and reliability in all interactions.
Additional Information
- Probationary period: 6 months; either party may end employment during this period by giving one week’s notice.
- Two up-to-date reference contacts are required, one from a present or previous employer.
- A new PVG enhanced disclosure is required prior to appointment.
