Overview
Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T) required to provide support and companionship to a young woman who lives with Autism. She stays with her family in the Dalry area. Confidentiality is of utmost importance.
Duties
- Provide support, encouragement and companionship to assist her to access the local community including going bowling, to the cinema and going out for coffee/lunches.
- Assist her to attend Drama Classes at CentreStage in Kilmarnock.
- Support her with a volunteering opportunity with animals.
- Spend time at home doing her hair, make-up and nails.
Life Skills
Support her with life skills including shopping, budgeting, meal preparation and cooking.
Qualities
The family are looking for applicants who are young at heart, friendly, have a cheery personality and are easygoing. You must be calm and supportive with the ability to be proactive and encourage in a positive way. It is very important that you are reliable and trustworthy, with good communication skills. It would be beneficial if applicants have similar interests so you can have conversations about her interests and hobbies. You must also have a good knowledge of Social Media.
Training
You may be required to oversee medication, including prompting and record keeping; therefore, Medication Training is required (this can be sourced/provided by the employer).
Experience Required
Experience of supporting young adults with Autism preferred. You must also have a good understanding of anxiety and the ability to recognize/provide support with its symptoms. You must be a driver, with a current driver's licence, use of your own car and business insurance. The wage rate incorporates travel allowance; however, mileage costs will be covered by the employer if travelling any distance for work-related purposes.
The successful applicants will have to undergo a new PVG Disclosure (or update), at the employer’s expense and supply 2 reference contacts prior to appointment and undergo relevant training. There is a 6-month probationary period attached to these posts with 1 week's notice within that time if the post does not work out.
